League of Legends Mythology (Part 1)
Each and every game, either it’s an online one or a board game, or even a card game, has a unique myth, a story on which it’s based on. Many people have heard some things about League of Legends myth, few have understood it and even less have been dazzled by the story behind the most popular online game in history. That’s why today we will talk about how League of Legends was created, what was the trigger to it’s creation and the mythology surrounding it. Even if it strikes as something odd, it was created with…enviromental concerns!! Let’s see how things went down.
In the past years, the planet of Runeterra has started to coress due to the excessive amount of magic that was casted. The tribes habiting the planet had always used magic as a way of resolving their differences. The past 200 years, Runeterra has suffered severe damages and the most affected area was Valoran.
Valoran is a continent in Runeterra, which as formentioned had been greatly damaged the last years, mainly due to the two Rune Wars that took place in the area. The consequences of the uncontrolled used of magic, wasn’t just felt by most of the inhabitants, but also changed radically the geomorphological and geophysical landscape of Valoran. Strong earthquakes and massive storms made life miserable, not to mention the war casualties and its consequences. Even though magic was used to Valoran’s restoration, many believed that yet another war would completely destroy the continent.
League of Legends
In order to prevent nature’s destruction, the greatest wizards as well as many Summoners (which were political leaders of the area), decided that all differences should be resolved in a more controlled way. Thus, the League of Legends was born.
The League is an organization which is responsible of the controlled solving of any conflicts, making them take place in specially formed places throughout the territory. Those areas were named Fields of Justice. Summoners from a political party, summon the heroes in the arena so they can fight to achieve their goals, which are usually the destruction of the enemy’s Nexus. Thus, considering the result of the battle, the League decides on the political outcome. It’s controlled by the Council of Equity which is responsible not only for the leadership and guidance of the League, but also to act as the highest court of appeal for adjudication of Valoran’s political entities.
The League is also competent for magically transmitting the images and sounds from the matches through special receivers that are place in various sport throughout Valoran. Besides, observing a match is one of the inhabitants favorite occupations.
In our next article, we will discuss Valoran’s two greatest political parties : Demacia and Noxus, but we will also deepen on the details concerning the Fields of Justice.
