Hello, my name is “TyL AnAnAs” (I am the former top laner of Test Your Limits) and this is my guide for Rumble, the Mechanized Menace. I have been playing Rumble in top lane since I can remember myself playing League of Legends and have won with him several tournaments in Greece being a member of TyL. I consider myself the most played Rumble in Greek competitive scene with also great ranked stats on him since season1. Rumble is the one of the few solid Ability Power choices of a top laner since he combines a great lane phase without many hard counters with phenomenal teamfights. When it comes to them he deals a great amount of AoE(area of effect) AP damage on the enemy team while a well-placed ultimate can determine alone the whole fight. He can be played decently in mid lane too and personally have seen him in jungle, not being so effective though. To clear things out, this guide is purely for TOP lane Rumble since that’s the lane I’ve mastered him. He may be pretty tough to understand at first, but when you get the hang of that Heat control, I can ensure you it gets easier and much funnier.

*One point in 1st level in Electro-Harpoon because it’s extremely useful early on when Rumble is weak. Electro-Harpoon gives him the opportunity to farm from distance (try last-hitting), not giving those ad bruisers the chance to bully you at those early levels.

*By the time you get level 3 you will need to have picked the first rank of each Rumble’s spells and that’s because you will need to be able to manipulate your Heat on your benefits.

*Flamespitter is to be maxed first as it’s the main source of Rumble’s damage while not being a skillshot (like Electro-Harpoon). However, when laning against ranged champion that has a lot of harass you can get the second rank of Electro-Harpoon at level 4 in order to match their harassment while farming decently. Don’t forget to get the Equalizer at 6,11 and 16 levels(!!!) since it’s one of the greatest ultimate abilities in the whole game.

Unfortunately I didn’t have the chance to play him more in season 3 because I am “retiring” for good :P . He is great at carrying in that bloody solo queue!! Consider though that not all of the games were played in solo queue but in ladder too with my former team Test Your Limits. I hope that you enjoyed my guide of my favorite champion and wish you the best of luck in the fields of justice! Feel free to ask me anything you want cause I will be checking and updating the guide every now and then!

Ignite and Flash are definitely useful on Rumble. Ignite can provide him a kill in lane phase while adding some damage burst later on and Flash gives him that escape-from gank ability that he really needs in the lane phase. Other considered choices are Exhaust and Teleport in the place of Flash. Exhaust really fits his kite and damage kit perfectly. It’s ideal for 1v1/2v2 situations that usually occur in top lane and it scales amazingly great as the game goes by (especially if you manage to get it on the opponent ad carry in teamfights). Teleport can be used surprisingly well on Rumble, firstly for laning control and secondly for ganks in all over the map (really effective in bottom lane ganks) but it can only work well in competitive scene because it needs great communication between the players.

Choose between the 3 following choices considering your opponent.

1) Boots +3 Health Potions : Boots of speed are really nerfed in season 3 but they can be bought first in an easy lane phase because they can turn into the useful Sorcerer’s Shoes really quickly.

2) Cloth Armor +5Health Potions : Truly useful against ad bruisers like riven/jayce/renekton. Better choice than the boots if the match-up is hard because the armor and the 2 more potions help a lot in the hit exchanges.

3)2Sight Wards +8Health Potions : Hate to say it but it actually works, especially against AP oriented champions that harass you constantly like Elise/Vladimir/Katarina/Akali. The cloth armor is useless in these matchups , so you may want to consider the potions+ the 2 wards.

Rumble

The Sorcerer’s Shoes are the most efficient boots on Rumble since he badly needs that magic penetration (consider that the opponents will rush magic resistance since they are phasing double ap comp). You can grab Ninja Tabi ONLY if their team is strictly consisted of AD oriented champions.

Haunting Guise
is ridiculously great on Rumble since it provides him with the 3 greatest stats on him, health points-ability power-magic penetration. With the new follow-up of this item Liandry’s Torment it now scales great in late game too.*Be careful though, and don’t upgrade Haunting Guise into Liandry’s Torment until you get your other core item,  the Rylai’s Crystal Scepter. The stats that you get by upgrading the item are not really so important early on that they are not worth the money.

Rylai’s Crystal Scepter is like your bread and butter on Rumble providing a chunk of health and ability power while giving your 3 damaging spells an extra slow. It works great with Flamespitter not allowing the opponents to flee from a battle while Electro-Harpoon is going to look like a “snare” with the extra slow.  The Scepter’s passive synergizes in such an exceptional way with the Liandry’s Torment’s passive that gives Rumble the control of the fight, slowing the whole teamfight ground while  dealing massive damage to the opponents.

I get Abyssal Scepter like in 70% of my games with Rumble. It’s great against other double AP compositions since it provides that extra magic resistance while shredding the opponent team’s resistance. Since Riot nerfed the distance of the resistance shredding aura it almost seems that it’s useless on mid AP carries that rely on positioning like Orianna/Lux/Xerath. It still works great though for some AP carries who need to get “into” the opponent team in order to deal damage like Katarina/Morgana/Karthus. I leave it up to you to consider taking it in games with different team compositions each time. The sure thing is that this item fits perfectly the AP bruiser style of Rumble.

Rabadon’s Deathcap is a great choice if you want to maximize your damage and rely on your killing abilities. You will see your Equalizer and Flamespitter melting the opponent’s whole team but you shall never forget that you remain a squishy AP with no armor and magic resistance.

Warmog’s Armor works just fine on every bruiser in the top lane at the time. If you get to tank for a lot of time in fights you will get to deal a lot more damage. Don’t forget that Rumble’s cooldowns are a joke and you will be able to spam something like 4 or 5 rotations in a large fight.

Guardian Angel is a great last item choice because it gives you the freedom to head against the enemy’s carries dealing tons of damage without worrying about dying early on. You have to make the passive count though, because it won’t help you at all if you go mad rushing alone into the enemies.

Will of the Ancients was used to be a core item for Rumble in season1/2 but things have changed. It’s not scaling well as the game goes by, but it still works if you got a lot of AP’s in the team cause of the passive. If you are going for Will of the Ancients you should grab the Hextech Revolver first thing in the lane phase, especially when you are laning against a heavy sustain champion like Vladimir/Yorick or even Irelia.

Magic Penetration suits Rumble perfectly and Armor seals are required in almost all cases. You can grab scaling Health Seals if you are dealing with an AP champion in lane phase. Ability power to boost your damage quite a lot, but you can consider taking magic resistance Glyphs if again you are dealing with an AP oriented champion in lane.
